SERVICE DOG TRAINING

Jas is honored to have helped countless clients find, train, and utilize their service animals.

Under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), service dogs are defined as any dog that is trained to mitigate their handler’s disability. There is NO national certification or registration, though Jas has assisted clients with airlines or housing by supplying endorsements of training.

Jas’ service dog training program is easily customizable, and assists owners with reaching a high standard of training. Service dogs should be unobtrusive in public, seamlessly work with their handler, and be able to task reliably. The training Jas does emphasizes not just how to teach the dogs the skills they need, but to also teach the handler how to integrate those skills in a way that creates a dog who truly loves their job.

Jas currently trains:

• Mobility assistance dogs

• Hearing alert dogs

• Psychiatric service dogs

• Medical alert dogs (such as diabetic alert dogs, but excluding seizure alert dogs)

• Allergen detection dogs

• Gluten detection dogs for celiac disease

Jas does NOT train:

• Guide dogs for the visually-impaired

• Seizure alert dogs

All dogs wanting to undergo training as a service dog with Jas must pass a temperamental exam, and if necessary, a physical exam from a licensed veterinarian. The process of training as a service dog is a long term commitment that cannot be achieved in a few lessons, and a dog may be deemed unsuitable at any point in time due to changing medical conditions or environmental factors effecting the dog’s temperament.
